Thomas P. Mathers
President and Chief Executive Officer
Tom joined Peptimmune as president and CEO, and director in 2003. He has more than sixteen years of executive management, sales, and marketing experience in the life sciences and medical device industry. Mr. Mathers also serves on the Board of Directors for the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), Emerging Company Section. Prior to Peptimmune, he served as president and CEO of Cell Based Delivery; vice president and general manager of Cardion AG; vice president of Strategic Development at Genzyme; and management positions at Snowden-Pencer and Pfizer, Inc. Tom holds one patent for a marketed product. He earned his BS in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was a Dean's List student and three-year starter on the football team as a defensive end. From 1988 to 1991 he served as captain in the United States Army and was awarded several medals for his services as an AH-64 Apache helicopter pilot in the Gulf War.
Eric H. Zanelli, PhD
Vice President, Research
Dr. Zanelli joined Peptimmune in 2003 as vice president of research and is a leading immunologist and HLA expert with experience in therapeutic development. Prior to Peptimmune, Dr. Zanelli was at Praecis Pharmaceuticals and Cardion AG, applying his expertise in autoimmune disease to the development of new treatments for rheumatoid arthritis, Type I diabetes, and multiple sclerosis. Eric received a PhD in Immunology from the University of Aix-Marseille II, France and was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Chella David at the Mayo Clinic, MN. His work was mostly related to the identification of genes involved in antigen processing and the role of MHC Class II gene polymorphism in the predisposition to rheumatoid arthritis. From 1996 to 2001, Eric was assistant professor at the Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands. While there, he continued his investigation of the role of MHC Class II genes in predisposition to autoimmune diseases and their value as clinical predictors of disease severity. Eric has over forty publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Carole Cassidy, MBA
Associate Director, Finance and Administration
Carole joined Peptimmune in 2005 and is responsible for all finance and administration. Prior to her role at Peptimmune, Carole worked in real estate development with Baren and Company. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California while on a full academic scholarship, and her Masters in Business Administration from Simmons School of Management.
Uday Patel
Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance
Uday joined Peptimmune in 2004 as senior director of quality assurance and regulatory affairs and has more than fifteen years of experience in quality systems and regulatory affairs management of biotechnology and pharmaceutical product development. Prior to his role at Peptimmune, he served as associate director of quality control at Altus Pharmaceuticals. At Altus, he was responsible for implementing the QC and QA systems in support of the biocatalysis product portfolio. In addition, he managed the quality function through the transition to clinical development of protein therapeutics for metabolic diseases. Uday was also with Biopure Corporation for seven years as senior quality control analyst. He earned his BS in Biochemistry from Suffolk University and Masters degree in Biology from Harvard University.
Jeffrey Krieger, PhD
Principal Scientist
Dr. Jeffrey Krieger joined Peptimmune in 2003 as prinicipal scientist in pharmacology/immunology with more than fifteen years experience in pharmaceutical development. Prior to Peptimmune, Dr. Krieger was the head of immunology research at AutoImmune, Inc. and an instructor in the Department of Neurology at The Brigham and Women's Hospital Harvard Medical School, where he held leadership positions in the field of cellular immunology. Jeffrey received a PhD in Immunochemistry from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Howard Grey at National Jewish Hospital in Denver. Jeffrey has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals and been invited to present talks at national and international conferences.
Kathy Collins
Manager, Immunoassay Development
Kathy Collins joined Peptimmune in 2004 as a leader in Immunoassay Development, with over 20 years of experience in immunology and assay development. Before joining Peptimmune, Kathy was at BiogenIdec in Analytical Development for 8 years where she developed analytical methods for drug product characterization and release. She received her B.S. in Zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Kristen Nicholas
Office Manager and Executive Assistant
Kristen Nicholas joined Peptimmune in 2008 as the office manager/executive assistant. For seven years, Kristen was an investment administrative assistant at Cambridge Trust Company. She has an AS in Retail Management from Endicott College, and a BA in English from Assumption College
Michael Bock
Research Associate
Michael Bock joined Peptimmune in 2008 as a research associate in the immunology/pharmacology group. Prior to Peptimmune, Michael was at NeurotechUSA for two years, as first an intern then as a full-time Bioengineer. Michael holds a BS in Biology from Providence College, where he was a research fellow of Dr. Charles R. Toth at Providence College and Dr. Wen Ming Chu at Brown University. Currently Michael is a candidate for his Masters in Business Administration at the College of Business Administration at Northeastern University.
Nicolas Mourier, PhD
Director, Product Development
Dr. Nicolas Mourier joined Peptimmune in 2008 as director of product development with more than fifteen years experience in pharmaceutical development. Prior to Peptimmune, Dr. Mourier was at Johnson Matthey and Wolfe Laboratories, where he held leadership positions in the fields of process development and formulation. Nicolas received a PhD in organic/medicinal chemistry from the University of Aix-Marseille II, France and was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Raymond Schinazi at Emory University. Nicolas has over fifteen patents and publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Sarah Bourgeois
Research Associate and Purchasing Agent
Sarah joined Peptimmune in 2004 as a Research Associate, and has worked in the Cell Biology group and Analytical Chemistry group. She also manages all purchasing responsibilities for the company. Prior to joining Peptimmune, she was a Research Assistant in the Anesthesia Research group at Massachusetts General Hospital. She received a BS in Biology from University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Kristen Rafuse
Senior Research Associate
Kristen joined Peptimmune in 2003 as a Senior Research Associate in the Pharmacology/Immunology group. Kristen has primarily focused on the development of PI-2301 its associated pre-clinical and clinical biomarkers. Kristen is a graduate of the University of Massachuesetts at Amherst, where she earned a BS in Biochemistry.
Dustan Bonnin, P.Ag., MBA-'08
Business Development and Intellectual Property
Dustan is a published author and inventor, with fifteen years of academic and industrial biotechnology experience. He brings a wealth of intellectual and economic resources to intellectual asset management, with his background as a patent agent and expertise in corporate development.
Michael Augustyniak
Senior Research Associate
Michael Augustyniak joined Peptimmune in 2006 as a senior research associate as part of the pharmacology/immunology group investigating the role of PI-2301 across multiple indications including Multiple Sclerosis and Crohn's Disease. Prior to joining Peptimmune, Michael spent five years as a research associate working in the in vivo pharmacology group at NitroMed Inc. developing rodent models of inflammation and cardio-renal dysfunction. Michael received his BS in Biology from Suffolk University.
Joe Kovalchin, PhD
Senior Research Scientist
Dr. Joseph Kovalchin joined Peptimmune in 2006 as a senior scientist and manages the in vivo/ex vivo preclinical pharmacology/immunology team. Dr. Kovalchin has more than ten years of in vivo model development experience, and prior to Peptimmune, he was at Antigenics, where he was responsible for in vivo model development. Joseph received a PhD in cellular/molecular biology from Kent State University and conducted graduate work and a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratories of Dr. Rajiv Chandawarkar and Dr. Pramod Srivastava at the University of Connecticut. Joseph has six publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Michelle Genova
Research Scientist
Michelle Genova has been with Peptimmune since its inception and is responsible for the in vitro and ex vivo evaluation of copolymers in the indications of multiple sclerosis and pemphigus vulgaris. Michelle has more than seventeen years of experience in biotechnology research and development, with expertise in flow cytometry and immunological assays. Prior to joining Peptimmune, she managed the core flow cytometry facility at the Rockefeller University in Manhattan.
Troy Bloom
Manager, Histology and Facilities
Troy joined Peptimmune in 2004 as the Manager, Histology and Facilities. Troy has more than 15 years experience in the histology and immunohistochemistry field. Prior to Peptimmune, Troy has held positions at PharmaMar USA, Cardion Pharmaceuticals and Millennium Pharmaceuticals. Troy holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Plymouth State University.
Tara Hittinger
Research Associate
Tara Hittinger joined Peptimmune in 2008 as a research associate in the pharmacology/toxicology/immunology group. Prior to Peptimmune, Tara worked in the discovery biology group at Bristol-Myers Squibb Medical Imaging Inc. Tara has a BS in Biology from Providence College.
Emily Sudhyadhom
Principal Research Associate
Emily joined Peptimmune as a senior research associate in 2008 with over eight years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to Peptimmune, Emily was at Alkermes and Watson Pharmaceuticals where she held senior leadership positions in QC and Analytical Research & Development departments, respectively. She was also with Elan and Bausch & Lomb Pharmaceuticals. She has worked on various projects involving method development, method improvement, and validation. Emily holds a chemistry degree from Emory University.
Allyson Masci
Intern
Allyson Masci joined Peptimmune in 2006 as a summer intern working in the pharmacology/immunology group. Allyson is completing her BS at a local university.
Michael Fratto
Information Technology
Mike Fratto has been managing Peptimmune's information technology assets since 2003. Mike is a founding partner of Viewpoint Security and works with numerous biotechnology companies in the Cambridge area.
